Mission Africa

The founding ethos of the mission is to bring the Good News of Jesus to the people of Africa. Mission Africa is committed to pioneering evangelism among people yet to be reached with the Gospel.
Mission Africa also has a strong vision for the future growth of the church in Africa. As a result, Mission Africa is committed to the strategic ministries of theological education and Christian literature which strengthen the church of today and build the church of tomorrow.

As new and changing needs develop in Africa, such as the spread of HIV/AIDS or the growing number of children living on the streets, Mission Africa seeks to respond in dynamic and innovative ways with a powerful demonstration of God’s compassion.

The mission is also proactive in developing new models of engaging in mission. Serving in Africa is now more accessible, more flexible and more varied to reflect the changing needs of the continent.
Mission Africa works in four countries in Africa; Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad and Kenya. There are many missionaries who have followed God’s call and travelled to Africa with Mission Africa, most growing up here in Northern Ireland. Linda Abwa and Lynsey Bell grew up here in Newtownabbey and now live and minister in Abuja in Nigeria.

Carole Grant from our very own congregation travelled to Nigeria with Mission Africa in September 2013 for a year. She lived in Ogugu in Kogi state and worked with Advance Initiative. She has been coordinated the HIV/AIDS support group and Abigail’s fund which was set up to help women with premature babies, amongst other activities which range from Drug and Alcohol awareness to teenage programmes for those in Ogugu.

Christine Craig has visited Nigeria 3 times. Here is a brief summary of her experiences.

My first experience of Mission Africa was in Senior CE when I was a teenager. Jonny Beggs the Short term coordinator was visiting, as Mission Africa was the CE project at the time. His visit stuck in my head until around 5 years later I applied to travel to Africa on a team with Mission Africa. I had originally applied to go to Chad, but God wanted me in Nigeria. Since my team in 2009 I have travelled back to Nigeria twice and spent two years volunteering with Mission Africa at their Home office. I also attend a monthly Mission Africa prayer meeting.

All of the work that Mission Africa is involved in is done to glorify God and bring Jesus to the people of Africa.
